Quilts #2 and #3

As promised here are the next two installments into the 'Quilt a Week' project! No real inspiration for these, just exercising my right brain...

This one I wanted to experiment with weaving--I just used scraps of fabric that I had in my stash, vinyl and a few yo-yos (22.5'' x 11.5 '')

And for this one....I have been saving gum and lollie pop wrappers for something and decided that this project was the perfect, there might have to be a part two....I've been saving them for a while! (12'' x 8.5'')

AND tomorrow, June 13 is World Wide Knit and Crochet in public day! Me and my mother have already packed up our crochet hooks, projects, lawn chairs, beach umbrellas and snacks for a fun filled day of crocheting in our town square! There are events going on all over the world and the US...check out the website for more details and to find an event in your home town!

Back on Track!

Needless to say that things have been crazy, but I am back and ready to keep this poor little blog updated!  I have been on a total book craze lately, completely wonderful!  My latest read has been The Uncommon Quilter By Jeanne Williamson.  Jeanne takes on the task of creating a quilt a week, with a few stipulations: she can't restart one that she starts!  She also talks about how to incorporate plastic, paper, surface design and different types of fiber in each quilt.  This book was great to get your mind thinking if your stumped and gave plenty of inspiration!  So I have decided to try my hand at creating a quilt a week and this is week #1!

My first quilt is 18in x 18in and pays homage to the family of birds that have made a home in one of my hanging baskets!  I used scraps that I had in my pile for most of the shapes, but to take some advice from Jeanne I used dryer sheets as the floor part of the quilt.  I also covered the whole thing in netting to keep all the elements in their place!  I machine quilted it, but did the binding by hand.

The little eggs hatched last week actually and now I have 4 little birds growing (very fast) on my porch!

Poor Little Blog

Where has time gone?  I can't believe that it is almost mid February!  My poor little blog has felt so unloved these past few very busy months!  December was nuts with family and holiday happenings....all good by the way!  I watched on of my brothers graduate from college and get married (in back to back weekends no less), me, the hub and the pup moved into our new apartment, and we had family Christmas (a few weekends after Christmas) then poof its January!  And it seemed that January was just as nuts as December!  Plus my poor camera died so no picture taking!  Uhh, good news though me and the hub took a trip to New York for the winter conference for Children's Book Authors and Illustrators!  I got to hang with my brother in law while my husband schmoozed around with fellow artists of books!  And his website is up and running so go check it out!  www.jeremydevans.com  see i told you he was wonderful!  On the making stuff side of news I promise lots of pictures to come!  I am slowly re-building my website, and want to get all my new pictures of great new stuff on there!  For now I'm exhausted but I think I'm going to make my way over to my sewing machine and get some stuff cranked out!  Thanks for bearing with me!

Handmade Nation

This past Saturday was a busy crafty day! We did some holiday shopping at the Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa over in Athens--and it was really great, cold but really great! Then we headed over to the Madison Morgan Cultural Center for the showing of Handmade Nation. It was really awesome....the full length film is coming out in 2009 and I can't wait! Keep checking back to see where the showings are going to be---if you are at all vaguely interested in the indie craft movement you should defiantly check it out! Oh and we are finally no longer homeless!!! So I promise more plush and fun fur to come!!!

Just for FUN

I know I did this a while ago...but lack of internet equals I've got a lot to catch up on! So I am a huge fan of Craftster and had so much fun working on my entry for one of their contests---Cozies with Irony. I crocheted ice cube cozies (what needs a cozie less than a piece of ice!) and surprisingly won! (thanks for all the votes!) I received the book The Naughty Secretary Club as my prize. Everyone should so go get this book! Its got all kinds of super great ideas for non-traditional jewelry...I can't wait for warm garage sale weather so I can try my hand at making some of these super cute items! So here if for thinking outside the box!

oh how ive missed you!

OH how I've missed you! Things have been so so so crazy lately, me the hub and the pup are still couch crashing but things I hope will be looking up in the very near future! In the middle of moving, job hunting and digging thru boxes to find sweaters---my sewing machine has been super busy. I don't even think I let everyone know the exciting news...two of my patterns are going to be in the book "One Yard Wonders"! Ive been busy at work getting the patterns written up (much harder than I thought it would be), and sewing the samples! Here is a sneak peek of what is going to be in the book....you will have to wait til October 09 to see the finished products!

OH and the deadline for making scarfs for the Special Olympics is coming up so get working!
